Job Summary

GLOBALFOUNDRIES is seeking Senior RF and mmWave IC system and design engineer focused on system analysis ranging from High performance RF to mmWave including 5G/Cellular and radar systems. This role will include system level analysis, behavioral simulation and IC design using different, innovative architectures to deliver best-in-class performance. Of particular importance will be the design and design enablement of Front End and Transceiver components such as low-noise amplifiers, power amplifiers, T/R Switches, mixers, VCOs, and PLLs in leading edge CMOS technologies such as FD-SOI to FINFET. RF and mmWave Pathfinding involves identifying, designing, and demonstrating circuit and system architectures that are synergistic with GLOBALFOUNDRIES RF/mmWave process technologies and emerging market RFIC requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

. Requires close interaction with the IC design team and an appreciation for implications of design and implementation choices.

. Specification, simulation, and evaluation of system performance for 5G Cellular and mmWave systems.

. Behavioral modeling of wireless systems and their components.

. Development of Innovative architectures suitable for advanced CMOS nodes like FDSOI and FINFET.

. Prepare documentation for the work related to system and architecture.

. Development of state-of-the art RF and mmWave circuit, block and subsystem level designs for highly-integrated transceivers to satisfy emerging market requirements.

. Design, implement and tape-out relevant prototype designs on internal test chips and MPWs.

. Perform electrical simulations on benchmark circuits to insure specifications are met.

. Work with internal and external test resources to characterize initial silicon in sufficient quantities to demonstrate ability to meet critical performance requirements.

. Documentation of all design measurements and correlation of silicon vs simulation.

. Perform all activities in safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs

Required Qualifications

. MS in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in RF and mmWave design.

. 10 years experience

Preferred Qualifications

. Knowledge of millimeter-wave system air interference design.

. Knowledge of Trade-offs between system level design and device level implementations.

. Familiarity with 3GPP or other standards experience a plus (Like WIFI 802.11.xxx, LTE-A, radar systems, etc.).

. Deep experience with Digital communications, signal processing, and communication theory.

. Experience with design involving frequencies higher than 10GHz.

. Experience with Hands-on laboratory measurements.

. Ability to communicate clearly, organize effectively, and work with groups of designers to build innovative leading edge communication systems and sub-systems.

. PhD in Electrical Engineering or similar.

. Architecture experience with systems and sub-systems related to Transmitter, Receiver and VCO/PLL designs

. Deep understanding of the design of some of the key transceiver system building blocks including LNAs, Mixers, VCOs, Power Amplifier (PA), PA driver, LO generation and distribution, etc.

. Relevant industry experience in transistor-level RFIC design in nanometer scale (40nm to 14nm) CMOS technologies

. Familiarity with 3GPP 5G and other relevant specifications.

. System analysis of 4G/5G cellular and mmWave architectures.

. Knowledge of digital signal processing, EDA simulation tools such as Cadence and Keysight ADS, RFIC layout, circuit simulators, electromagnetic simulators, and Matlab

. Experience with lab characterization of RF, mmWave, Analog, and/or Mixed-Signal integrated circuits
